This was originally a comment to a different post, but it ended up being so long that I couldn't post it as a comment, so I'm trying to post it as a standalone post instead. Here are some basic things that I would say are fairly easy for a beginner, and will might give a big return. But such locations can of course still also occur in areas with official coverage like Hong Kong or Taiwan for the example of a Chinese language museum. Those countries/regions haven't allowed Google to map their streets and roads. Some big ones are mainland China, Kazakhstan, most of Africa, most of the Middle East, easier to memorize the few countries that do have coverage in those regions. If there's no Google coverage, no point in guessing there.
